Hi! I’m Megan, the cool chick who runs this show. If you’re reading this, it’s because you probably want to get to know me, so I feel like I should tell you the important things first like, I traded my business suit for a bib, learned to run, I finally wear shoes that fit, wore yoga pants before they were cool, single parent five kids like a boss, eat steel for breakfast, love all things green smoothie, and view life through the lens of satire.
As for all that other stuff…
I graduated college at nineteen with a degree in political science, law school at twenty-two, am a certified Natural Health Educator, became a certified Naturopath after completing four years of training at two different institutions, founded Live Beyond Words, Inc., which encourages people to live out their faith through orphan care in D.R Congo, and adopted two of my five from Africa.
When I was barely no longer a teen, I married who I thought was the love of my life. I gave up my career so that he could have his, sacrificed my body to have his children, became a stay at home mom, and submitted to my husband like I thought a good biblical wife should. In the course of a year, I went from a pregnant, stay at home mom of two with a present husband, to a full-time stay at home/work at home, single mom of five. It was hard and it almost killed me. It’s still hard but I’ve learned a lot about marriage, – what it is and what it isn’t, even more about myself, have seen God deliver me through impossible circumstances, have overcome the adversities of adoption, the heartbreak of divorce, and have truly learned what it means to die to myself. I write a lot about these experiences here and on my other blog in hopes that it will speak to others in the valleys and trenches they also find themselves in.
And then there’s that natural health stuff…
As if I didn’t already stand out enough, you should know that I think natural health is kind of a big deal. I didn’t choose a healthy lifestyle, it chose me. When I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease almost a decade ago, I knew there had to be more options than surgery and expensive medications with horrible side-effects. I started attending a naturopathy school, did an extended stay at a macrobiotic institute to learn about diet and digestive diseases, and started to change my lifestyle. Not only did I heal from Crohn’s, but I pushed through a lot of other things too, like depression, Hashimoto’s, hypofunctioning pituitary, severe adrenal exhaustion, gastroparesis, hypoglycemia, and more.
When I became well using the alternative methods doctors told me would never work, I began to wonder what else they were wrong about. I developed the habit of researching everything from the toothpaste I use to the toilet paper I wipe my butt with. It’s just my thing. This prompted me to throw out the microwave, ditch the gluten, sugar, milk, pork, and genetically modified foods, empty the “medicine cabinet,” wear my kids, breastfeed my babies, recycle our trash, up the probiotics, un-school my kids, and rip up the CDC’s vaccination schedule.
